U13B Shield Final
Ruan 4-6 St Josephs Doora-Barefield 1-1
Venue Fr McNamara park
Fr McNamara park was in superb condition for the U13B Shield Final between Ruan and St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield. Ruan started stronger and put the St Joseph’s backs under pressure from the start. Strong defending by the St Joseph’s girls denied Ruan an early goal. The goal mouth scramble resulted in a 45 which was pointed by Aisling Moloney giving Ruan an early lead. Ruan continued to keep the pressure on the St Joseph’s goal but St Joseph’s strong defence limited Ruan to another point from a free. Nessa Ni Lachtnàin scored Ruan’s first a goal after 15 minutes with a superb strike. This was soon followed by another point from Aisling Moloney who showed great free taking skills throughout the game. Barefield rallied but were unable to break down the Ruan defence. A goal in the last minute of the half by Niamh Glass gave Ruan a commanding lead at half time of 2-03 to no score.
St Joseph’s rallied in the second half but found it difficult to break down the Ruan backs lead by the very impressive Meabhdh Casey. Ruan extended their lead with two further goals from Nessa Nì Lachtnàin, two pointed frees from Aisling Moloney and an outstanding long range point from Àine Jones. In the last few minutes St Joseph’s got a well deserved goal and a point from a free.
